This consortium commission will focus on themes of perspective and personal change: As we get older, things that felt critically important begin to feel infinitely insignificant. Our priorities have changed with time. This doesn't mean that we've changed our standards, it just means that we gained a different perspective of meaningfulness and want to live life joyfully. Our focus is not on the past, but on the people, experiences, and moments that surround us now.
Consortium members will receive:
- the finished work on or before September 1, 2027.
- the exclusive right to perform the work from September 1, 2027 until February 29, 2028.
- recognition within the front matter of the score.
The consortium period ends on October 31, 2026.

Fee
Buy-in is only $50 per ensemble (up to two members). The lead commissioner will pay a flat fee of $400. Consortium members will pay $50 per ensemble (up to 2 members). The minimum combined commission fee is $800. If the minimum combined commission fee is not reached within the consortium period (requiring at least 8 Consortium Members), the Lead Commissioner will pay out the remaining difference. Additional Consortium Members will not be charged more than $50.

The Composer

Andrew Strawn is an American composer who writes dramatic music for the concert hall. Known for his direct melodic style, dynamic orchestration, and evocative harmonic language, his music engages with the audience through romantic, lyrical expression and earnest storytelling. Often drawing from literature and visual art, his works explore topics such as faith, the relationship between joy and sorrow, and changes of soul.
Notable collaborations and commissions include the Kentucky Symphony Orchestra, CCM Wind Symphony, CCM Concert Orchestra, CCM Wind Ensemble, NKU Theatre & Dance Program, CCM Saxophone Ensemble, and many chamber ensembles and soloists. He was recognized as a finalist for the Walter Beeler Memorial Composition Prize, the ASCAP Morton Gould Young Composers Award, the American Prize in instrumental chamber music, the National Young Composers Challenge, as well as the MakeMusic International Young Composers Competition. In 2023, he won first prize in the Cincinnati SongSLAM. Recently, his first symphony, Confluence, was recorded by Ablaze Records for their upcoming album featuring significant new works for wind band. Andrew currently studies composition with Christopher Cerrone at the Mannes School of Music. He holds degrees from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) where he studied composition with Douglas Knehans, Michael Fiday, and Ellen Harrison; and saxophone performance with James Bunte and Carly Hood. Outside of music, he is a Kentucky Governor’s Scholar, makes a fine cappuccino, and greatly enjoys both academic and fictional literature. (b. 2003) |
